The CHANGE A LIFE Program
This program was designed to teach adults how they can help those who experienced childhood domestic violence
Developed by the leading researcher in the field and endorsed by U.S. Fund for UNICEF and Children’s Mercy Hospitals, CHANGE A LIFE is the only evidence-based online program of its kind. This simple, straightforward program is designed to teach a caring adult how to become The ONE for a child growing up in a home living with domestic violence. The one to help a child feel understood and heard. The one to help a child know that it isn’t their fault and that a child is never responsible for controlling the actions of an adult.
“Resilience does not come from rare and special qualities, but from the everyday magic of ordinary, normative human relationships.”– Ann Masten, Regents Professor, Irving B. Harris Professor of Child Development, Institute of Child Development, University of Minnesota, “Ordinary Magic: Resilience Processes in Development”

How the program was built
In the spring of 2010, some of the world’s leading researchers, therapists, child advocates, and strategists came together to answer one essential question: How can we help as many children as possible who are experiencing childhood domestic violence?
Two years later, the CHANGE A LIFE program was completed. The program was empirically tested in a 2-year university study and is proven effective to guide and prepare a caring adult to help a child who is experiencing childhood domestic violence. The study’s findings were published in the Journal of Family Violence.
Change A Life provides a foundation for other tools
While in the process of developing other tools and resources it became evident that Change A Life would provide a strong foundation for which other tools could be built upon. Tools like our online learning program, Be The One, Resiliency Focused Mentoring training.
This 5-hour certification curriculum was developed specifically for professionals who work with children who may experience childhood domestic violence. In it, you will learn how to build resiliency in and ‘Be the One’ for a child in neeed. It was created by the “founding father” of modern resiliency theory and provides five hours of Continued Education (CE) credits through the National Association of Social Workers.
